Abstract

Congenital hernias through the foramen of Bochdalek are the most common diaphragmatic hernia in infant. But foramen of Bochdalek hernia with sac is very rare and associated congenial anomalies are frequent.
These hernias occur in the posterolateral portion of the diaphragm and are due to failure of fusion of the pleuroperitoneal membrane and the septum transversum. Symptoms and signs vary from severe respiratory difficulty from the time of delivery to no respiratory symptoms at all.
Diagnosis is made predominantly by roentgenographic examination. Treatment is prompt reduction and repair of the hernia. One case of foramen of Bochdalek hernia with sac we have experienced is presented in this paper.
